Dear International Living Reader,
As an IL postcards reader, I wanted to offer some comments after reading Janine Goben’s recent postcard on medical care in Honduras (see "Top-Notch Medical Care in Honduras"). While in Merida, Mexico, we both came down with a "Montezuma’s revenge" type of problem and went to see a doctor in the area of the Centro Historico. He took the time to ask us all kinds of thorough questions before examining us, and, after letting us know what was wrong, he prescribed medication that took care of the problem totally within a couple of days.
The cost of the doctor’s visit for both of us? Two hundred pesos–not even $20! The prescribed medication was around $13.
Not only was the care inexpensive, but we were seen as soon as we arrived after calling only a half-hour ahead to ask for an appointment. We really appreciated getting seen so quickly, instead of dealing with endless phone-menus and long waiting times to ask for advice or appointments.
I’d like to hear from any fellow readers concerning any of their medical experiences in Mazatlan, Mexico, where we are planning to retire soon. If you have any comments about the care available there, please visit the IL Bulletin Board at http://forum.internationalliving.com/. One of the discussion topics is Healthcare, and you can post your comments there after registering. You’ll also be able to read what others have to say on the subject.
Thanks!
Myriam Roiz
