Maroma, considered one of the world’s most beautiful beaches
Dear Latin America Insiders,
This month and next we’re taking you to Mexico, one of Latin America’s largest and most diverse countries—and International Living’s #1 retirement destination for 2007. In this issue we cover Mexico’s Yucatán Peninsula. It’s generated lots of buzz the last few years, thanks to the allure of the rapidly developing Riviera Maya, along the Peninsula’s Caribbean coast, and to Cancún, arguably one of the world’s most successful made-from-scratch resort destinations.
We give you the scoop on the Riviera Maya and on one of the most promising destinations there: Tulúm. Beautiful on its own, Tulúm may soon be the location of the long-rumored Riviera Maya airport (and we tell you the latest on that, too).
But there’s much more to the Yucatán than the Caribbean coast. Its Gulf coast, long the less-glamorous side, is coming into its own. The reasonable real estate prices (you can still find beachfront lots for under $100,000) and calm Gulf waters are powerful attractions for investors facing sticker shock on the Caribbean. For city life, there is Mérida, an international capital with big-city amenities just 30 miles from the Gulf, and Campeche, a small-town World Heritage jewel on the Gulf (though without a beach).
And for those who don’t need to live within sight of a tide, there are tremendous bargains in the Yucatán interior. We let you in on our favorite picks—small cities with historic value, loads of charm, and inexpensive colonial properties that look poised to appreciate.
With all these options, your most difficult decision may not be whether but where to invest….
¡Bienvenidos a México!
