In Mexico you can have your teeth cleaned for about $45. A cap? That’ll run you less than $230. Stateside, by comparison, it’s not unusual to pay $75 or more for a cleaning and as much as $1,000 for a cap.

In Panama an organization called Pana-Health caters to “medical tourists.” It has more than 100 member physicians in a wide range of fields–dermatology, plastic surgery, dentistry, and more. These physicians received their specialist training abroad, mostly in the U.S., where many are board certified. You can typically expect to shave at least a third–sometimes much more–off the U.S. cost of treatments. For example, one patient went for cataract surgery that would have cost $5,000 to $6,000 per eye in the U.S. In Panama? It was just $2,500.
Health Care Costs in Thailand
Thailand is another destination where top-notch health care costs are half–or less–than what you’d expect to pay for comparable health care Stateside. Bumrungrad Hospital in the center of Bangkok, for instance, treats a million patients a year–400,000 from overseas. They come seeking everything from allergy to fertility to orthopedic care. And it’s soup-to-nuts pampering the whole time.
