See the video below, for a short clip of the beautiful beach of Tulum in Mexico.
If you’re looking for casual beach living in a picture-perfect setting, put the little town of Tulum, on the Caribbean coast of Mexico, on your radar. Tulum, less than two hours south of Cancun, has some of the most beautiful beaches along this coast. With pure white sand and turquoise waters, these beaches are the stuff of dreams.
Today, development is coming to Tulum, and it looks to become the Next Big Thing along this popular coast.
A fast highway connects Tulum with Cancun. A new downtown, called Aldea Zama, is being built to accommodate new shops, tour buses, and other tourist needs. And a new international airport is planned less than 20 miles from Tulum. When finished—at least three or four years from now—it will be able to handle three million passengers a year. (In the meantime, Cancun’s airport—the second busiest in Mexico—is only 90 minutes away.)
Tulum has a lot going for it. In addition to beautiful beaches where you can swim, body-surf and parasail, a reef system just offshore provides spectacular diving. For nature-lovers, there is the Sian Ka’an Biosphere Reserve: nearly 1.3 million acres of protected jungle, wetlands, mangroves and plains that is home to hundreds of bird and animal species. The reserve is just south of town—literally at Tulum’s back door. There are also plenty of Maya ruins to explore in the area, starting with those in Tulum itself.
Real estate prices here are still affordable, but—understandably—they’re rising. Right now in Tulum, for instance, you can buy a 3,900-square-foot lot in a prime residential neighborhood for $100,000. It is near downtown and about half a mile from the beach. Other lots are available at a range of prices, depending on size and location. They start as low as $40,000 for 13,450 square feet.
With its beautiful beaches, fascinating jungles and a low-stress feel, Tulum is hard to resist.
