IL editors Dan Prescher and Suzan Haskins live part-time in Cotacachi, Ecuador. In this video, they are getting the bus from Cotacachi to Ibarra to do some shopping.
Cotacachi is an ideal place to live if you want peace, quiet and a true small-town atmosphere. But it can be hard to find things like specialty hardware items, cheeses, good wine, etc.
Fortunately, the city of Ibarra is just up the road, and if you brave the noise and congestion of a busy weekday, you can get just about anything you want at the mall… including Kentucky Fried Chicken.
The most interesting part of the trip, aside from finding a good feta or a serviceable merlot, is taking the bus. It’s a veritable magic carpet that whisks you from Cotacachi to the Land of Consumer Delight for just 45 cents each way. And if you get the right driver, there is never a dull moment on the twists and turns along the way.
