In this video, IL editor Glynna Prentice is at a tapas festival in Cuenca, Spain. Cuenca is less than 2 hours east of Madrid, and has a beautifully-preserved medieval center that is a World Heritage site.
The old city of Cuenca lies atop a spur of rock surrounded on 3 sides by steep gorges that drop to rivers. The new city is down the hill on more level ground. Cuenca’s annual tapas festival takes place in the Parque de San Julian, right where the modern city abuts the centro. For several nights, Cuenca restaurants and hotels set up stalls in the park and vie to offer the tastiest tapas. It’s a great place to meet friends, make friends, and try a sampling of local specialties.
