The village of Kinsale is on Ireland’s southwest coast, in County Cork. In fact, it’s the southernmost port in Ireland. Only half an hour by car from Cork City, Ireland’s second-largest city, Kinsale is a popular weekend get-away. The village’s winding streets are packed with colorful buildings that house restaurants, pubs, shops, and B&Bs.

Kinsale is a lively village. There are a number of excellent restaurants here, and the town frequently holds festivals. In fact, an arts festival was taking place while I was there.

The hills around Kinsale are steep, and many homes on the higher slopes offer sweeping views of Kinsale’s beautiful harbor. If there’s a wind, you’ll likely see sailboats out on the water. The area also has plenty of walking paths, where you can feel as though you’re deep in the countryside—even when you’re only steps from town. With its proximity to Cork—a noted cultural and foodie destination—Kinsale offers peaceful, small-town living within easy hailing distance of urban amenities.
