Over in the southeastern corner of Costa Rica, you’ll find a region like no other in the country.
In this video, Jason Holland, International Living’s Costa Rica correspondent, highlights the beautiful beaches and laid-back towns of the country’s southern Caribbean coast, including Manzanillo, Puerto Viejo, and Punta Uva.
The area’s Afro-Caribbean population (descended from Jamaican immigrants that came about 100 years ago) has influenced the music, food, and culture of the area. And the warm, crystal clear blue waters make for some of the best beaches in Costa Rica.
You’ll find no big resorts or major chain restaurants in this area, and the locals and expats who live here like it that way. They prefer the bohemian vibe that permeates this stretch of coast.
