  • Learn from a professional photographer the best techniques for shooting pictures that sell for $50, $150, $250—and even higher…
  • Return home with the most amazing pictures to hang on your wall and show your friends…
  • Find out just how easy it is to turn your snapshots into cash—and enjoy the fun, freedom, independence, and travel opportunities that freelance and stock photography deliver.

It might be a cliché, but the old adage “once in a lifetime” certainly describes this photography expedition.

Our readers have been asking us for this event ever since we published stories about Shanghai back in June 2007. (You can read our report here.)

Armed with your camera and daily instruction from professional photographer Shelly Perry, you’ll be ready to spend your time in Shanghai capturing one saleable shot after the next. Shelly will be by your side to help ensure you're learning (and practicing) the secrets that make for amazing photos you can easily turn into cash.

Dates
October 23-28, 2008

“I was in Shanghai this past May and I wanted to get a picture of the famous Pearl Tower from across the river. I went to my chosen spot every day on that trip. And every day the tower was lost in smog, fog, or bad weather. I asked a guy on the street if I should come back at night or in the morning for clearer skies, thinking maybe I was just choosing the wrong time of day. But he replied: come back in October if you want clear skies.”

– Joe Swick, previous workshop attendee

Workshop Includes:

  • 5 days of photo lessons with professional photographer Shelly Perry
  • 6 nights hotel
  • a trip to a rice or water village
  • a welcome dinner
  • a farewell dinner
  • a Chinese acrobat show
  • a lesson in either Chinese tea or Chinese medicine

(Attendance is limited to 8 people.)

Extend Your Stay and See the Terracotta Warriors and the Great Wall

Join us in Shanghai for the photography expedition and extend your stay to see the Terracotta Warriors in Xi’an and the Great Wall in Beijing.

After five fun days of photography instruction and touring with Shelly Perry in Shanghai, we’ll board an overnight train to Xi’an – famous for its dumpling dinners and the amazing Terracotta Warriors.

In 1974 a group of local farmers found the first Terracotta soldier buried in the ground just east of Mount Li.  Current estimates are that the three excavated pits contain more than 8,000 clay soldiers, 130 chariots, 520 chariot horses and 150 cavalry horses.  These were all buried with the Emperor of Qin (Qin Shi Huang) in 209-210 BC in hopes that they would help him rule over another empire in the afterlife.

We’ll visit the soldiers, take pictures, and then overnight in Xi’an after taking in an evening show and dumpling dinner.

On the morning of October 31 we’ll fly to Beijing to see the Great Wall.  Also in Beijing we’ll take a Chinese Dumpling cooking class, catch a Kung fu show, and visit the Forbidden City.

On November 1 we’ll take an overnight train back to Shanghai and arrive in the early morning (around 7:00 a.m.).  Flights back to the U.S. generally depart in the afternoon so you can schedule your flight home from Shanghai on November 2.

The cost of this add-on excursion is just $1,599 per person.  To register, select the add-on excursion option below.
