Dear International Living Reader,

Many of us have had holidays spent breathing recycled air in "luxury" coaches…watching bad television in hotel rooms…eating beyond our capacity simply because meals were included in the "package" and there was little else to do. Yawn!
We don't mean to suggest that a bit of R&R might not be just what the doctor ordered…sometimes. But there are times when you want an active holiday. You may have little desire to scale Mt. Everest, bungeejump off a cliff, or swim the English Channel. Perhaps a week of boat fishing is what you need to sort your head out. Thing is, you want to do something on your holiday this time around.
We've compiled this collection of sporting destinations with you, the active traveler, in mind. It's a mixed bag, from the quirky (cheese rolling in Gloucestershire) to the extreme (ski-jumping in Thunder Bay, Ontario).
