Dreaming of Costa Rica
Want to make a change in your life but don't know how to go about it? I was in your shoes a few years ago, but today I am sitting here in the sunshine in Mexico looking out at the flowers tumbling over the swimming pool in my backyard. I'm working on my itinerary for a trip to Panama later this month and to Costa Rica in November. Even though I'm working, I feel like the luckiest person in the world.
About eight years ago, I started reading International Living's daily Postcards. I started daydreaming about doing exactly what I'm doing today…writing about exotic locations. And living in one of them…in a place where I never have to see a snowflake or put up with a human flake if I don't want to. (I suspect you know what I mean…)
Six years ago I decided to make my daydreams my reality. I sold my house, my cars, most of my belongings, and headed south to Ecuador. I pestered International Living for a job. And here I am today…working, traveling, and living in Latin America--where I enjoy fantastic weather, and a very comfortable lifestyle.
My story isn't unique, though. I know lots of people who have said "to heck with it" and found new lives in foreign countries. Some are retirees, but most are still working…they've found unique and fulfilling ways to make a living-in Croatia, Costa Rica, Mexico, Paris, Brazil…
A big part of my job is helping others do what I did: pull up stakes, head for greener pastures, and figure out a fun way to pay for it all.
I write about this kind of thing every day, and I've done lots of interviews recently about why Americans might want to move abroad. (The U.S. news media is hungry to learn more about this phenomenon, it seems.) Everyone has a different reason, of course, but it's mostly about adventure, I think….and becoming the person you want to be, living the life you want to lead. And all it takes is a little confidence…
So where do you get that confidence and find the motivation to even think about this kind of thing? You can bet I'm about to tell you.
You don't have to leave the comfort of your home or office--I'd like you to join me for an event that may give you the spark you need to change your life in the ways you've been dreaming of. If that sounds like touchy-feely schmaltz, so be it. I'm not apologizing. I really believe that there are tremendous opportunities out there beyond U.S. shores--and anyone who has the desire to do so can find them.
Join me on Monday, Oct. 8, at noon EST. I'll be hosting a special hour-long discussion with some friends-four other ordinary-turned-extraordinary people with fascinating, non-traditional lives. (The always entertaining Steenie Harvey will be one of them.) We'll be talking about how they did it, and how you can, too.
Let this teleconference be the first step to the most rewarding chapter of your life. Best of all, you don't have to comb your hair, brush your teeth, or dress up to join us. Learn more here.
Best regards,
Suzan Haskins
