I've just heard from the developer that instead of the originally planned 27 single-level condo apartments, you'll now have your choice of 39 of these units.

The reason: According to the developer, the apartments in three of the project's seven buildings have been redesigned to make them, in his words, "a little more manageable for a beach condo."

Floor plans for the apartments call for spacious interiors (about 1,000 to 1,275 square feet), and each has a private terrace, plus parking. Pre-construction prices range from $199,000 to $325,000. All of the units include air conditioning, kitchen appliances, and Internet access.

The two-level penthouses (1,860 square feet of living space) start at $326,000.

Portofino will feature 24/7 security, and residents will have access to a clubhouse with a private infinity pool, bar, and tanning terrace?a perfect place from which to enjoy the panoramic view of San Juan del Sur and the bay.

This area of Nicaragua's south Pacific coast is attracting the same kind of attention that Costa Rica did 20 years ago-get an early luxury foothold here at Portofino at a very reasonable price.
