If you're actively in the market to buy a piece of real estate in another country…you're making inquiries…your e-mail address is finding its way onto developer, agent, and promoter lists…and you're seeing the offers, typically attached to pre-construction buys: "Three-year rental guarantee of 12% net," for example. Can this be for real, should be your first reaction. And the short answer is, no, probably not.

Kathie and I are interested in purchasing another building renovation project in Casco Viejo, Panama. In the city last week, we spent an afternoon walking around looking for prospects. Prices have doubled in the past three years, so it's harder and harder to find a good deal. Dear International Living Reader,
Day two of the Global Real Estate Forum dawned clear and warm on Cofresi Bay outside Puerto Plata on the north coast of the Dominican Republic. An 8 a.m. start time meant that a few attendees came in late after sampling Dominican hospitality, food, and drink the night before, but an early start was necessary to get through everything we had planned on this final day.
Now, it's all over. But for the 30 attendees at the Forum, it's all about to begin.
