Today I’m going to tell you about one of my favorite places. It has some of the best real estate values right now. And I love spending time there. Back home, winter is gnashing its teeth. But in this place, it’s warm. Bright sunshine reflects on a mirror-flat lake.
The 2 million tourists who come to Costa Rica each year probably think they know this country pretty well. But most tourists tend to stick to well-known beach towns and the Central Valley. That’s not where you’ll find the best property values right now.

There’s a special place on Costa Rica’s Pacific coast where bright, thick, green jungle canopy rolls down to a stretch of sandy beaches and rocky points. It’s truly stunning. While prices in places you’ll see in glossy magazines soared…prices here stayed low. It was difficult to get to. But a new smoothly paved coastal highway has changed that. And it’s nicer here.

Every time I visit Costa Rica’s Southern Zone the gorgeous scenery stops me in my tracks. And property prices here are as breath-taking as the landscape.
The lights here were just as low, the ocean breeze just as gentle, the spaghetti carbonara just as peppery and fresh in the little restaurant on Playa Samara as they were during our honeymoon 14 years ago.
Prices on beachfront properties along certain stretches of Costa Rica’s coast have tumbled. It means a window of opportunity has opened there for Americans anxious to “rescue their retirements” by looking for dollar-stretching opportunities overseas.
Costa Rica’s “Pura Vida” is well known. Celebrities have caught on and spend millions of dollars on beach and jungle retreats. Thing is: There’s more to this wonderful country than the north Pacific-Coast resorts with sticker shock akin to Aspen or New York’s upper east side. My Costa Rica is nicer…and you can buy for as little as one-tenth what you would pay where the jet-set shop.
