It was thanks to a health scare in 2009 that I finally took the big step to becoming my own boss.
For 25 years, I had worked as a magazine publishing executive for companies like Forbes, Times Mirror Magazine, and Crain’s New York Business. Even though I loved my career, even though it was fulfilling and I was successful, it was still a job, and I still didn’t control my own time.
I still missed out on milestone moments in my kids’ lives, and I still occasionally had to work with folks…well, let’s just say, that I would rather not work with.
Bottom line? I did not want to be handcuffed to an office grinding out the emblematic 9 to 5. I wanted to do business and make money on my own terms.
Then, like I say, I had a health scare, though thankfully within a few weeks I got the all clear. Once I got a clean bill of health, I declared it was time to start my own business. No more waiting around.
The very next day I went to work and resigned from my job.
It was time for me to apply the blueprint I had developed, perfected, and implemented over the years to a business of my own.
You see, many years ago if you wanted to start your own publishing empire, it would cost you hundreds of thousands of dollars in start-up costs.
But times have changed. People are reading on desktops, laptops, tablets, and smartphones and I developed a business model to take advantage of current trends and online phenomena in magazine publishing.
I call it the inbox magazine. I had 5,000 subscribers in 24 hours and in the first 45 days, I broke the six-figure mark. And each year I’ve built on that success. Now that I have greater financial and personal freedom, I do business on my own terms. I set my own schedule and I get to spend more time with my family…or playing tennis.
It was thanks to my blueprint that I succeeded…and now I want to share it with you.
You can start a business like this for less than $100. The only real equipment you need is a computer and the Internet. (I myself like a laptop so wherever I go, I can take my business with me.) You’ll have a fully functional business within 30 days and you can run it on as little as two hours a day.
Now I’m making more money than I did when I was a corporate CEO. And, I don’t miss my son’s football games or my daughter’s softball games. I travel for fun whenever and wherever I want.
