Ten months ago my husband Tom and I moved to the Yucatan Peninsula on the Gulf Coast of Mexico. We chose a house that sits on a beach overlooking a local fishing pier, where each morning we watch the fishermen catching bait in their nets before they head out to sea in their pangas (fishing boats).
My husband Tom and I have adventurous spirits. So, last March, we decided to embark on a new adventure, having lived in Puerto Rico for two years. We'd always dreamed of living in Mexico so we packed up everything, put ourselves and our dog on a plane to Miami, picked up a car there, and started driving south.
On my 45th birthday I told my husband I did not want to still be living in Arizona when I turned 50. We had lived in Arizona for 35 years, while I worked in the corporate sector...in management, customer services, business analysis, and training. These days we live in Puerto Rico where my husband has a new career as a scuba instructor and I work freelance. The low cost of living allows us to have a great life...with fewer hours and less stress than corporate life.
