On a recent trip to Cuba, Mark and his wife caught the travel bug…and they wanted to explore an overseas retirement. But first he needed an income he could take with him. He started online importing, and since then they’ve taken a six-month Caribbean adventure, staying in five different tropical destinations. The only question now is, “where next and for how long?”
Jeff wanted a business that would allow him to keep freedom and fun in his life…but still have enough money to pay for all the things that mattered. Today, he earns as much as $12,000 a month, importing from the comfort of his own home, but works only three to four hours a day. The rest of the time, he hangs out with family, golfs, and takes extended vacations whenever he wants.
Judy always dreamed of opening a folk-art store someday. Then, on vacation in Mexico, she decided to just go for it and started buying and selling local folk art. Since then, Judy has traveled the globe from Tanzania to Thailand, Bali to Costa Rica, working with local artisans and selling their crafts back in the States. Not only is she living a lifelong dream but she loves that she’s helping local artisans at the same time.
There are lots of reasons to start your own importing business. It’s fun…flexible…and the income potential is substantial…
- You can get started with as little as $50.
- You don’t need an office and there’s no staff to manage.
- There’s no boss.
- These days you don’t even need to store any inventory or ship a single thing. There are easy-to-use websites out there who’ll take care of all that.
- Your online store will tick away in the background, racking up sales, even when you’re sunning yourself at the beach.
So, what does online importing involve? For starters, I know from firsthand experience that you don’t need to physically import a single thing…or ever have to store or even see the product if you don’t want to. I’m currently selling jewelry online and the only products I saw were the original samples I paid $30 for.
Today, everything is done online. And you don’t need to be an IT whiz. Lots of great companies are out there to handle credit card processing, shipping and storing the goods, and more. You don’t even need a website. Easy-to-use third-party websites will build and host your “store” for you.
All you need is an idea—something you can import—and the willingness to give it a shot. From water bottles to wooden watches, jewelry to electronics, it’s a booming multi-billion-dollar industry and there’s plenty of room for you.
