Just a few weeks ago, my wife and I were sitting in La Cabaña de Leo, enjoying lunch in the bamboo and thatch restaurant on a beautiful white-sand beach. The first course was a thick shrimp soup, made with crushed peanuts.
The entree was sauteed chunks of albacore tuna, also served in a peanut sauce, alongside a cucumber and tomato salad and a few slices of fried plantain. We washed it down with cold papaya juice, while we watched kite surfers glide across the waves, and sometimes even take to the air.
You don’t have to be rich to enjoy eating out though—our meals were only $3 each. And that’s not the only bargain you’ll find in the small, relatively new beach town of Santa Marianita.
It’s a great time to find a great-value getaway or retirement home in Santa Marianita. This is a location where beachfront lots can still be purchased starting at $65,000 for a 3,300-square-foot plot, or $69,000 for a smaller lot on the hill already equipped with power lines and an access road.
This quiet little community is starting to catch on big, not just with the kite surfers who go there for the great waves and steady breeze, but also with developers and investors. People love the fact that this secluded stretch of beach, long known as playa bonita (pretty beach), is only 15 minutes from the major city of Manta.
If you’re looking for a turnkey property, south of the main strip of condos and restaurants, you’ll find a fully furnished, two-bedroom condo right on the beach for $129,900. Or, back in town, an unfurnished, two-bedroom home for $95,900. This home features a shared rooftop terrace with a six-person Jacuzzi, perfect for relaxing and enjoying the spectacular sunsets.
There are several new developments also starting up where you can get in on great deals being offered for both newly built and pre-construction homes. Notably, one new development is being built using eco-friendly construction processes. The walls are fabricated using panels made of Styrofoam and steel mesh that form a sturdy, insulated barrier.
All units face the beach with large balconies and private rooftop terraces. There are existing units available starting at $167,950 and pre-construction orders can be placed for two- and three-bedroom homes from $159,900.
Santa Marianita is a picturesque, rustic beach setting, just minutes away from all the services of a major city. And now is the time to take a look at the great deals in this soon-to-be-discovered piece of the Pacific coast of Ecuador.
