Punta del Este is the top destination in Uruguay. Rock stars and billionaire fashion moguls vacation there. Pop starlets keep a summer home to “snowbird” the North American winter.
Shakira and the rest of the jet set that throng Punta del Estate in January and February don’t know what they are missing.
A condo in Punta could set you back $7 million. This is the place to be seen…where rock and sports stars hang out with their model friends. They leave their soccer clubs in Madrid and Barcelona, the catwalks of Milan or their recording studio in Miami to come here.
But…Uruguay’s best beaches are a short drive down the coast.
And, members of Real Estate Trend Alert can buy a half-acre lot here from $28,710.
This is the last great property deal I’ll tell you about this week, courtesy of the research I do on behalf of “RETA” members.
Uruguay’s best beaches are in Rocha—the province that stretches east from Punta del Este to the border with Brazil. White sands stretch for miles and miles. You can walk on these sands for hours undisturbed by another human being. Birds flap and flutter overhead as waves crash. White foam races ashore and then disappears into the sand fizzing and bubbling as it goes.
Back from the beach, dunes give the perfect shelter for an afternoon picnic. I don’t see a coast like this—of wide beaches backed by dunes—in many places on my beat. This must be what the beaches of New England were like before wealthy families colonized them.
I could imagine Calvin Klein or Ralph Lauren using these beaches for a photo shoot. It’s that type of place. If feels classy…luxurious, yet among raw nature.
The birds keep coming. Ducking, diving and calling out. They are spoiled for choice. Just inland is the protected Laguna de Rocha. This is where they make their homes and feed. Spread over 18,000 acres of pristine wilderness, the laguna is a nature lover’s and boater’s paradise. But it won’t get spoiled with super yachts; the use of engines is restricted. This is a place to come and fish and potter around by sail.
Not only the best beaches…but Uruguay’s best little beach towns are in Rocha, too.
Buzzing La Paloma is the area’s biggest beach town. La Pedrera is quieter and more upmarket. Tiny Cabo Polonia is famous for its shifting sand dunes, and bohemian residents.
Little Uruguay is a peaceful and stable country that’s on the up. Its infrastructure and education standards are First World. You will easily fit in with the locals. You can join the community—not hide behind big gates and walls.
Thanks to the special discount I’ve negotiated, it’s also here in Rocha where members of Real Estate Trend Alert can buy a half-acre lot priced from $28,710. (That includes a 10% discount.)
The Argentine developer has a strong track record. His other project in the area is home to some of the most photographed homes in the region. These lots are in an amenity-rich project that is close to one of the best beaches in Rocha, and the Laguna de Rocha. Residents can enjoy golf and tennis within the gates of their community.
