If anyone needed a retirement rescue—it was Ron and Terresa Moore. “Our 401k turned into a 201k after the economy went sour in 2008,” Ron joked today.
Their story is all too familiar. Back in July 2007, Ron and Terresa made six-figures managing a car dealership, they had real estate and $1.2 million in assets.
But fast-forward to December 2008. They found themselves out of work. Their real estate and stocks were falling fast. And their nest egg had shrunk to $300,000.
“We were bleeding pretty bad,” says Ron, “and it wasn’t going to get any better. We knew we could no longer afford to live in California. And we knew for sure that we didn’t want to look for new jobs.”
Did they pout? Nope. Ron and Terresa took charge.
Terresa downsized on the property front. And Ron investigated their options. The more research he did, the more certain he became that low-cost Ecuador could rescue their retirement…
How Ecuador Can Rescue Your Retirement
So Ron and Terresa traveled south to Ecuador. In a week, they saw as much of the county as they could. And once they learned just how cheap life really is down here, they realized Ecuador was for them.
In the sleepy village of Cotacachi, they bought a 1,100-square-foot, two-bedroom/two-bath condo with a magnificent view of the Andes. The price? Just $52,000.
A few months later, they had sold everything in California and started new lives in Ecuador. Carefree lives where a restaurant meal is just two bucks. And Ron can get beer delivered to his front door seven days a week!
But Ron and Terresa didn’t stop there. They started exploring more of Ecuador. And on a trip to the coast they found a fishing village called Crucita.
In a modern, eight-story building with a balcony overlooking the Pacific, they purchased the beach home they’d always wanted. A place, Ron says, would “cost over a million dollars for the view back in California.”
For this 950-square-foot, two-bedroom/two-bath condo…with a swimming pool and BBQ area right on the beach…they paid just $61,800.
And their annual property taxes for both places combined comes to just $80… a year!
I’m Darius Fisher, and I’m reporting live from Quito, Ecuador from International Living’s Fast-Track Ecuador: Lifestyle and Opportunity Conference.
I’ll show you how you can listen to Ron and Terresa’s full story, see their monthly budget and get their “been there, done that” advice in just a moment…
But I should tell you that Ron and Terresa’s story wasn’t the only story like this we heard today…
From National Salesperson… To Cuenca Expat
We also heard from Edd Staton. After being downsized from his job in Las Vegas, Edd said enough was enough. And he and his wife Cynthia decided it was time to stop putting life on hold and time to start living it.
In 2009, they moved to Cuenca and they haven’t looked back since. They have no regrets, they say…
Their stress has melted away. Their cost of living is “a fraction of what it was.” And they have more free time to do what they want to do.
“We do so much socializing, our kids say, ‘Who are you people, and what have you done with our parents?’” Edd told us today.
Now Cynthia practices tai chi, yoga… and “has a black belt in soduku,” as she put it.
More free time. Less stress. And more cash in the bank—those are the reasons why low-cost Ecuador makes so much sense for thousands of baby-boomers right now.
And while it’s great to dream of a new life overseas… this conference is all about real-life solutions like…
How to Buy Real Estate in Ecuador—Quickly and Easily
Ecuador attorney Dr. Roberto Moreno explained how to legally structure your property purchase in Ecuador (it’s absolutely safe, but the legal system here is different than you’re used to, so these are need-to-know tips).
He also explained why NOW is the time to invest in Ecuador. Other places like Panama, Mexico, and Costa Rica are great places to consider living…but they don’t have this special one-of-a-kind quality.
If you’re considering this beautiful country as a place to live, retire, or invest…this information and guidance could save you thousands of dollars. It could rescue your retirement. And it will definitely help you make your dreams of living in Ecuador a reality.
Real estate guru Margaret Summerfield also gave her #1 tip on buying real estate in Ecuador… plus showed pictures of properties available right now.
If you want a beach condo overlooking the sparking Pacific… a secluded mountain house with your own productive farm… or an apartment in a bustling cultural hotspot like Cuenca…Margaret shared specific deals…
For $79,000, she revealed where to find a 2,100-square-foot getaway just a few blocks from the beach. And another condo—for just $47,500—that has sweeping ocean views on Ecuador’s southern Pacific coast.
One attendee told me, “The info I learned during Margaret’s presentation was alone worth the cost of the conference.”
A word to the wise: Do not buy in Ecuador without these tips, real estate deals and strategies… they could make all the difference between you getting an extraordinary value and having a seamless experience… or overpaying and stumbling into roadblocks.

High-Quality Health Care… Low, Low Prices
Health care matters for all of us these days. So it was good to learn more about the high-quality care available here in Ecuador.
Sarah Dettman, a nurse and almost 30-year Ecuador resident, knows this country’s health-care system well.
The advice she shared today about navigating that system, is invaluable for anyone looking to make a move to Ecuador. What is the #1 thing you absolutely must do before you leave your home country? Sarah filled us in.
Importantly, we learned how any expat can qualify for Ecuador’s public health-care system. It costs about $50/month and it’s a one-time fee that covers just about everything… doctor’s visits, lab work, prescriptions, hospitalization, even optical and dental.
With what we learned today, I doubt anyone left the room without a step-by-step strategy for obtaining quality, affordable health care here in Ecuador.
